Ilber Ortayli, was born in Vienna in 1947. He is a leading expert in the Ottomans and is the Director of the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul, Turkey. He is also Professor of History at Galatasaray University in Istanbul and Bilkent University in ankara.
