Caroline Flint knew from the age of eight years old, when her baby sister was born at home, that she wanted to be a midwife. Since then she has become an inspirational figure in the world of childbirth. She has been a midwife for nearly 50 years working in hospitals and women’s homes, and the Birth Centre in London which she ran for over two decades. She has three children of her own and 12 grandchildren – nine of which she delivered. She was President of The Royal College of Midwives, a founder member of the Association of Radical Midwives and the first Chair of the Midwives Information and Resource Service. She continues to speak at conferences, and runs twice weekly ‘Bumps and Babies’ groups for the NCT (National Childbirth Trust).
