This book traces the evolution of European Union transport policy, exploring how member states’ competing interests and internal EU tensions have shaped its development. Offering a comprehensive, mode by mode overview, it charts the historical background to current policies and highlights future challenges and opportunities.

With clear explanations of the origins and drivers of EU policy, it offers students, researchers and policy makers a coherent guide to the political, economic and environmental contexts in which transport policy decisions are made. Covering topical themes—including markets, climate change and Brexit—it offers an essential foundation for the study of European transport policy.
