The individual chapters focus on how industrialists addressed a large array of challenges related to industrialization, borrowing and mixing ideas originating in domains such as corporate identity formation, mediatization, scientification, technological innovation, mechanization, capitalism, mass production, medicalization, educationalization, artistic production, and social utopia, while competing with other interest groups who pursued their own goals. Karin Priem is Professor of History of Education and Head of Public History at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH, University of Luxembourg). Her publications and interdisciplinary research focus on social, cultural-material, economic, and educational history.
Frederik Herman is lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (PH FHNW). He has published widely on topics such as school culture, materialities of schooling, psychophysiology, vocational training, and cultural learning.
