This volume addresses Flannery O’Connor’s work, biography, legacy, and reception through the concepts of art and archive. The former foregrounds reinterpretations of her writing through visual artistic expression. The latter emphasizes the archive as a symbolic locus—a repository of sources and influences that inform her literary imagination and shape critical responses. Art is understood through visual art’s engagement with literary texts, while the archive is approached as a conceptual space encompassing ideas such as the Global South, contemporary Catholicism, new media, and philosophy. Contributors from Europe (Italy, Germany, Poland) and the United States demonstrate how these concepts deepen understanding of O’Connor and her adaptation through visual art and new media.

Mirosława Buchholtz, Professor and Head of the Department of American Literature and Literary Translation at Nicolaus Copernicus University (Toruń), teaches American literature, film adaptations, and biography. A graduate of Brandeis University (M.A., Ph.D.), she has published approximately 150 articles, essays, and reviews, seven books, including Henry James and the Art of Auto/biography (2014) and Ernest Hemingway in Interview and Translation (co-authored with Dorota Guttfeld, 2022), as well as twenty-two edited volumes and guest-edited journal issues.
Grzegorz Koneczniak is Assistant Professor in the Department of American Literature and Literary Translation at Nicolaus Copernicus University (Toruń), where he teaches Irish literature in English, editing, and book history. He received his Ph.D. from Nicolaus Copernicus University and his habilitation from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He has published four books on Irish literature and drama, including Building (in) the Promised Land: Postcolonial Biblical Readings of Contemporary Irish Drama (2000–2015) (2022).
