This Handbook is intended as a methodological gateway to the scholarship of Jewish art and architecture and an attempt to describe its developments in the historiography of Jewish art, architecture, and visual culture. It addresses art historians who seek to familiarize themselves with the specific discourses on Jewish art, as well as scholars from other disciplines, who seek acquaintance with art historical methods. It is meant as a detailed introduction to the historiography of Jewish art and architecture, its scholarly methods, and to theoretical approaches, past and present. It also points at questions still open.
