The sun is back, but the horror is just beginning, in the first installment of a new season of the New York Times–bestselling author’s Hell Divers series.
Six months ago, the Hell Divers activated the polar reactors and ended two and a half centuries of perpetual storms. The sky is clear for the first time in living memory.
Xavier “X” Rodriguez has finally retired. He spends his days fishing with his dog, Miles, and his nights looking out over the beach with his partner, Valeria. The only fight left is against his pangs for adventure. But that struggle quickly comes to an end when ships start vanishing and the only clue is a single word screamed over the radio: swarm.
Half a world away, Michael Everhart has spent weeks flying the Vanguard over the United Kingdom. But England is a watery grave; every SOS he chases leads to more corpses. When a signal from survivors in Paris finally cuts through the static, he turns the airship east, hoping France is not another cemetery.
Meanwhile, across the Pacific, Magnolia Katib is aboard the Trident, hunting in the ruins of Japan for the key to humanity’s future on the word of Cmdr. Josie Hallsey. But when a dive reveals an ancient threat on the islands, Magnolia begins to wonder if the commander has been hiding something—and whether the storms alone had been keeping it asleep.
The Hell Divers thought they had survived the end of the world. But what comes next might be worse than the apocalypse: An awakening has begun.
