High-Level Geometric Patterns in Islamic Architecture is a comprehensive study exploring the structural diversity, technical depth, and drawing methods of the most intricate geometric patterns found in Islamic art. Edited by Serap Ekizler Snmez, with a foreword by Jay Bonner, the book brings together internationally recognized experts with profound knowledge in the field: Alan Adams, Ameet Hindocha, Daud Sutton, Goossen Karssenberg, Islam Farid, Rajen Astho, Reinout Engel, Richard Henry, and Saeid Shakouri. By examining complex examples of geometric design in Islamic art, this work reveals step by step how these patterns were constructed and the underlying logic that governs their geometry. Each contributor presents their own working methods and drawing processes, shedding light on the technical and intellectual layers of a knowledge tradition passed down through the centuries. High-Level Geometric Patterns in Islamic Architecture stands as a pioneering reference for researchers, artists, and designers who seek to understand geometry as a language of design, combining technical depth with an international perspective.

Serap Ekizler Sönmez was born in Germany in 1973. She completed her undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Marmara University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and worked in this field for a while. She continued her painting education, which she started during university, for 12 years in the studio of painter İlhami Atalay. Later, she took lessons from the surrealist painter Erol Deneç. With her interest in painting prevailing, she completely left the chemistry sector and opened her own studio in 2003. She participated in various group and solo exhibitions. For 10 years, she gave private lessons and prepared her students for group exhibitions every year. The artist, whose original works are included in many international collections, continues her work in various fields such as painting, calligraphy, caricature, and mural painting. Having developed an interest in areas such as "Islamic History and Architectural Works" and "Geometric Patterns in Islamic Art," Serap Ekizler Sönmez conducted research and studies in this field and completed her master's degree in Islamic History and Arts at Marmara University's Graduate School of Social Sciences. She prepared a comprehensive study, particularly focusing on the structures from the Mimar Sinan period, analyzing the geometric patterns found in these buildings. She conducted research on how Islamic architecture developed throughout history and drew sketches and designs of important works.
