Planetary conjunctions are momentous occurrences connected, in astrology, to significant happenings —both social and natural— on Earth –is their predictable and cyclic appearance in the sky sufficient for prognostication?
Horoscopic Techniques: Prorogations with Planetary Conjunctions and Cycles contains a critical edition, translation and commentary to guide you through the content and historical astrological context of the unpublished medieval Arabic manuscript Kitāb al-adwār fī tasyīr al-anwār (Book of the Cycles for the Prorogation of the Celestial Elements) by al-Baqqār (fl. 1418).
This is the first study that shows that al-Baqqār developed a dual conceptual and practical framework which used both the nature of planets in conjunction and their irregular astronomical motion, inspired by sources such as Ptolemy and Aristotle, and prorogation technique. This study also reveals a new approach for planetary conjunctions not related to Sasanian astrology and horoscopes for rulers, but to Greek astrology, and intended for learners and practitioner astrologers.
