Have you ever wondered what a tinsmith, an upholsterer, or a locksmith actually does all day?
I Want to Be a Master Craftsman introduces young readers to 18 real skilled trades, from car mechanics and bakers to glassmakers and goldsmiths, through Honza Smolík's playful, mishap-filled illustrations. Each profession gets its own section explaining the real work involved, a bit of history behind the trade, and a labeled illustration of the tools of that craft.
Along the way, readers pick up genuinely interesting facts, like where a locksmith's trade traces back to ancient Rome, or how a confectioner's earliest sweets were found in an Egyptian pharaoh's tomb. A nine-question quiz at the end lets kids test what they've learned. It's a humorous, fact-filled introduction to the hands-on careers that keep the world running, perfect for children who are curious about how things are made, fixed, and built.
