An intimate and daring exploration of female sexuality — graphic novelist Alix Garin shatters the taboo around sexual pain.

In this deeply moving, full-color graphic novel memoir spanning over 300 pages, Alix recounts her years-long struggle with vaginismus—a little-understood condition estimated to affect between 5% and 17% of women worldwide—that made intimacy painful and, at times, impossible. What begins as a private, isolating ordeal becomes a wider reckoning: she moves from doctor to doctor, tries a string of therapists and specialists, and slowly pieces together the physical and psychological threads behind her pain. Along the way, she must confront how the condition strains her relationship with her partner — the guilt, the miscommunication, the fear of losing him — and find a way back to closeness without losing herself in the process.

Told with unflinching honesty and rendered in tender, evocative artwork, Impenetrable follows Alix's path from shame and silence toward self-understanding, healing, and a renewed sense of desire. It's a rare and courageous portrait of a subject too often left undiscussed — one that speaks to anyone who has ever felt broken by their own body, or afraid to ask for help.

Her first graphic novel, Forget Me Not, has been translated into more than 15 languages. Impenetrable won the Audience prize at Angoulême (2025) and the Comic Barcelona Award for Best Foreign Work (2026).
