This monograph takes the reader straight into the workspace of one of history's most influential translators: Jerome of Stridon. Focusing on the Latin translation of Psalms 90–106, Martijn Jaspers addresses a deceptively simple question: how did Jerome translate these Hebrew Psalms into Latin? Drawing on modern Descriptive Translation Studies and grounded in meticulous philological analysis, the study provides the first data-driven analysis of Jerome's Psalterium iuxta Hebraeos. It offers not only new insights into Jerome's translation technique, but also a model for how ancient translations can be studied with modern methodological precision.
