A Jewish preacher living in a region under Roman rule, he traveled from village to village teaching love, compassion, and the dignity of those whom society had forgotten. In a remarkably short time, he built a community that, after his death, would pass down his teachings and eventually form the foundation of the world’s largest religion. For this reason, the historical Jesus can be difficult to fully grasp. What did he really say? What was he trying to change through his message?

Through the Gospels and the limited historical records of his time, Jesus emerges as a challenging prophet and a leader who unsettled the authorities. Yet beyond the many interpretations, one thing remains relevant today: the enduring power of his teachings about caring for others and the need to resist responding to hatred with violence.
