This chapter reviews the key stages in the development of the chicken embryo: from the fertilized oocyte, the zygote, through to the hatched chicken. The chapter also covers extra-embryonic tissues like sub-embryonic fluid, yolk sac, amnion and chorion-allantois membrane (CAM) which develop in synchrony with the embryo and play essential roles in embryo development.
