Forget ‘human in the loop’; you need humans at the core if AI is going to serve your business well.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping roles, automating tasks and redefining careers. It brings enormous potential benefits, but also challenges: working with AI has been linked to lower levels of self-confidence, increased feelings of loneliness and reduced wellbeing. What impacts people today impacts their organizations tomorrow.
It’s vital, then, that leaders don’t focus exclusively on the narrow goal of technology adoption. More than ever, they need to be able to exercise judgement, build trust, demonstrate genuine empathy and strengthen connection.
But what does that look like in practice, and how should they do it?
Organizational psychologist and executive coach Pooja Sachdev has spent years learning about what makes people and organizations flourish. She has worked with companies across sectors - including finance, technology, media, and public services - to strengthen leadership capability, culture and employee experience.
In Leading with Human Intelligence, she identifies the key skills that are crucial for leaders right now and shows how to embed these capabilities at scale, drawing on principles from psychology, adult learning and organizational effectiveness.
In an era of rapid technological advancement, the most valuable leadership traits are those that machines cannot replicate. Here’s how we use them more effectively to help people and businesses thrive.
Pooja Sachdev is the founder/director of Rewire Consulting. She is an organizational psychologist, psychotherapist and executive coach whose approach integrates psychological depth with systemic analysis: understanding and developing people as individuals while also looking at the structures and dynamics that shape how work gets done.
Over the last two decades she has consulted with a wide range of organisations, including HSBC, Microsoft, Universal Films, Caterpillar, Red Bull and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), to help embed effective leadership practices and foster healthy, inclusive and high-performing cultures.
Her previous book (with Chris Yates), Rewire: A Radical Approach to Tackling Diversity and Difference (Bloomsbury), was described by the Financial Times as “the most refreshing approach to diversity I have read.”
In addition to her newsletter and blog, she writes for Coaching Perspectives (the magazine of the Association for Coaching) and has contributed to books (e.g. a chapter on “Leadership and Diversity” in Leadership: A Critical Text (3rd edition) (SAGE)).
She is a speaker, panelist and podcast guest, and hosts workshops and webinars on topics like Inclusive Leadership and Managing cross-cultural teams.
Pooja brings depth, empathy, humour and nuance to complex organisational challenges. She holds two Masters degrees, is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Association of Business Psychologists (ABP). She also serves on the Board of Mental Health Matters (MHM), a UK-based charity.
She has lived in three countries and brings a fresh, global perspective to her work.
