As a complement to the many existing studies on the philological and exegetical aspects of the Vulgate, this book provides a thorough exploration of the linguistic challenges faced by Jerome and other translators or revisers of Biblical texts. The Vulgate stands as a fascinating case study, shaped by a variety of source languages, numerous translators, and the ongoing interplay between direct translations and revisions over time. The corpus-based, contrastive studies presented here delve into the lexical and morphosyntactic features of the text, while also highlighting the distinctive form of Latin employed in the Vulgate, especially in comparison to Late Latin.
