One reality dating show. One dead contestant. One very haunted set.
Romance book addict and reality TV show contestant Phoebe Benson almost made it to the end of the dating series Happily Ever After. Securing a spot in the final three, she could already see herself riding into the sunset with this season’s Prince Charming, Leighton Cruize. But the next morning she’s found mysteriously dead at the bottom of the mansion’s stairs.
Heartbroken and lacking a pulse, Phoebe has a few tough pills to swallow. First, there’s the obvious no longer living complication, but she’s also not able to move on until she can determine her cause of death. And it seems she’s not the only apparition wandering the estate in search of closure. In fact, there are six other ghosts, including her very attractive, very bitter, favorite romance author: Alexander Montgomery-Finch.
Alexander isn’t shy when it comes to voicing his disapproval of Happily Ever After, and he bickers with Phoebe constantly. It’s a wonder this brooding novelist could have written the swoon-worthy love stories Phoebe once devoured. But on the odd occasion, she does find Alexander staring longingly at her—and she can’t deny her own growing attraction to him.
Now, with the show going on without her, Phoebe has one chance to tell Leighton she’s waiting for him on the other side before the season wraps. But as memories of that fateful night reveal how she got literally ghosted, she wonders if an eternity of haunting by Alexander’s side would really be so bad after all . . .
Laugh-out-loud funny and achingly tender, this ghost story is perfect for fans of The Bachelor, The Dead Romantics, and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.
Tropes include: enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, and found family.
