Maggie has just learned to fly when she crashes into the side of a building. She falls to the ground, alone and injured. Who will help her? As told with real photographs, this true story explains how wildlife hospitals rescue and treat injured animals. Their goal is to release the animals back into the wild. Sometimes, this isn't possible--but there can still be a happy ending. Maggie's story, written by Christie Gove-Berg, is just such a success!

“The compelling story and riveting photos provide an engaging overview of bird rescue and rehabilitation and the important role performed by wildlife hospitals. A Q&A section about peregrines in general and Maggie and her family is appended.”
—Joy Fleishhacker, School Library Journal

“A good addition to collections about birds and wildlife.”
—Robin Sofge, School Library Journal

“Too many authors are satisfied with a few cute pictures and a simple story, but Christie has obviously set out to educate anyone who reads this book, or has it read to them, and inspire them to look up and think about the difficult lives that our urban wildlife experience. A book that deserves to be in every grade school classroom and even grandma’s house!”
—Travis Rosenberry, Library Director, The Peregrine Fund | Research Library

Christie Gove-Berg loves nature and wildlife. Her first book, Esther the Eaglet: A True Story of Rescue and Rehabilitation, was written after an injured eaglet was rescued on Christie's parents' land. This second story was inspired by Maggie, a young Peregrine Falcon who was injured while learning to fly. Maggie is now an educational bird at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. A portion of the profits from each book sold will go to the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Christie has been a member of the Forest Lake Writer's Workshop for eight years, and she has written three books. She spends her free time with her family.
