This volume reflects on the Mediterranean as a monstrous creature with agency. It highlights how the interactions—often conflictual—between nature, marine creatures, and humans are taking on monstrous forms; how these components can no longer be conceived as separate from one another; and how products of popular culture—from written narratives to visual representations—reflect, directly or indirectly, the complexity of these entanglements.
