Sarah Carpenter lives with her two dogs in a farmhouse, high on the North Yorkshire moors. Alone for the first time since her husband died and her children left home, she isn’t exactly lonely but welcomes the arrival of an old friend, Aiden Beck, who needs a place to stay. Aiden clearly has secrets, but then so does Sarah, and that’s no reason not to respond to his warmth and charm. But something doesn’t feel quite right. As the weather closes in, and snowfall blocks the roads, events take a dramatic turn and suddenly Sarah finds herself in terrible danger, unsure of who she can trust. Elizabeth Haynes is also the author of Revenge of the Tide, Human Remains and The Murder of Harriet Monckton.

'It's hard to put the uniqueness of Elizabeth Haynes' writing into words. Her stories grip you by the throat and force you to acknowledge that this is what real crime and real horror look and feel like, as well as real love, hope, fear. Suddenly, much of the other crime fiction you've read seems, in comparison, rather like stories made up by writers. Haynes is the most exciting thing to happen to crime fiction in a long time.' – Sophie Hannah

The combination of viewpoints... plus a creepy anonymous observer intensify the plot’s not-inconsiderable chill factor. Haynes remains a crime writer to watch.' – Publishers Weekly

'This fantastic book by Elizabeth Haynes cannot appear on bookshelves soon enough. Truly exciting, this is one title that’s sure to be on top of all summer ‘must-read’ lists... A truly great read, Haynes has hit it out of the park once again!' – Suspense Magazine

'The pages fly... Haynes is an expert at ratcheting up tension, so when someone poisons one of Sarah’s dogs, you know something bad is about to happen to Sarah herself. Until the very end, though, you aren’t sure who exactly it is that wishes her ill.' – The New York Times Book Review

'Full of menace, and dead sexy.' – Ava Marsh

'A thrilling, atmospheric, creepy and unsettling page-turner.' – Sam Carrington, author of Saving Sophie

'A tale of love, jealousy and obsession. The characters crept under my skin more and more as the story unfolded, revealing layers of intrigue and mystery and finishing with a climactic ending. A superb rollercoaster of emotions.' – Mel Sherratt

'I knew from the first page that Never Alone was going to grab hold of me and not let go – and I was right. The tension and intrigue ramp up throughout the book, right until the final terrifying moments.' – Rachel Abbott

'A masterclass in suspense. The final chapters are the most sublime I’ve read in ages. So brilliantly tense.' – Clare Mackintosh

'Haynes is one of those “just one more chapter” all-night-reading writers. Her acute understanding of human nature under stress is delicious, her plotting ingenious and trustworthy. Never Alone is a terrific book.' – Alex Marwood

'Never Alone is an atmospheric and beautifully written thriller that is impossible to put down. I tore through it, gripped all the way to the pulse-pounding ending. Brilliant.’ – Mark Edwards

'This is a gripping and tense story which had me on the edge of my seat. A grown-up version of Into the Darkest Corner – this story is full of lust, suspicion, mistrust, suspense, desire and guilt. An exceptional atmospheric psychological thriller.' – Tracy Fenton, THE Book Club

'Elizabeth Haynes is a genius at finely tuned suspense. Never Alone frayed my nerves and gripped me from the start.' – Lesley Thomson

Elizabeth Haynes is a former police intelligence analyst who lives in Norfolk with her husband and son. Her first novel, Into the Darkest Corner, was Amazon’s Best Book of the Year 2011 and a New York Times bestseller. Now published in 37 countries, it was originally written as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), an online challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. She has written a further three psychological thrillers—Revenge of the Tide, Human Remains and Never Alone—and two novels in the DCI Louisa Smith series, Under a Silent Moon and Behind Closed Doors. Next came her highly praised historical novel The Murder of Harriet Monckton (a Sunday Times Summer Read) which is based on the 1843 unsolved murder of a young school teacher in Bromley, Kent. Elizabeth’s latest novel, You, Me and the Sea is a contemporary story of love and redemption set on a remote, windswept Scottish island.
