When old Tock the toy rabbit finds himself in a box being donated to charity, he can't help but wonder what happened to the little girl who once loved him.
Tock's story begins in 1939, when five-year-old Sam receives him for her birthday. From that moment, they are inseparable.
He comforts Sam when her father leaves to fight in the Second World War and follows her to the hospital where they meet children sick with polio. Sam gives Tock to a very ill boy named Flynn, and because he loves her, he lets her go. From there, he meets many children, and witnesses history first-hand.
Over the years, he celebrates the end of the WWII, discovers the excitement of 1950s rock 'n' roll, watches the first Moon landing in 1969, joins a flower child in the 1970s and journeys through the changing world of the late 20th century and beyond.
"Once, I was loved". And perhaps, after all these years, he still is.
A heart-warming historical picture book about childhood, friendship, family, memories and the enduring power of love. Perfect for children, families, classrooms and anyone who has ever treasured a favourite childhood toy.
