Manhattan has become an island for the ultra-rich. Under Amon Oberman, the city is sealed off as a private paradise for the Blessed, where fortunes grow without restraint and every appetite is indulged. Beneath them, an obedient class of Patriots works, worships, and suffers, trained by social software and religious ideology to accept its place.

Clarity knows the system is not as secure as it looks. A brilliant Lunaapeew engineer raised by her grandmother far from her people’s ancestral homeland, she comes to Manhattan carrying the grief of her mother’s murder and questions about the inheritance she was denied. When a child is dying from a preventable illness, Clarity hijacks the city’s systems to save her. Her act exposes the machinery of Oberman’s power and turns her into a symbol of resistance.

To stop her, Oberman recruits Meremoth, an unstable technological genius, to flood the city with deepfakes, agentic AI, and weaponized social media. Truth becomes impossible to separate from performance. Servants turn on masters, the elite splinters, and Manhattan slides toward revolution. Caught between them is Oberman’s volatile son, Duke, whose obsession with Clarity and her mother threatens to bring buried family secrets to the surface.

Darkly comic and provocative, Pervercity is a speculative thriller about wealth, colonization, digital manipulation, and the struggle to build a just community. At its center is a clash between unchecked capitalism and Lunaapeew values of relationship, responsibility, and collective life. As Clarity fights to remain herself in a world designed to distort identity and desire, the novel asks what freedom can mean when every story, image, and belief can be engineered.
