Pierre Bourdieu and History: Influences, Inspirations, Interactions reconsiders Bourdieu from three connected angles: as a thinker of history, as a scholar shaped by political and intellectual contexts of his time, and as a lasting presence in historical writing today. Moving beyond the common view of Bourdieu as a theorist of reproduction and continuity, the volume reveals his sustained engagement with historical change, both as an observer and as an active participant in the major transformations of his time. Bringing together historians, sociologists, and anthropologists, it examines Bourdieu’s relation to history as a process and as an academic field, while tracing the continuing influence of his concepts in historical research today. With contributions from scholars who worked with Bourdieu alongside a new generation of researchers, the book offers a nuanced and original account of his ideas, his moment, and his continuing relevance.
