It brings together twenty-eight chapters that collectively offer a pioneering discussion of the place and function of print in archival collections, examining what, how and why early modern print can be found in archives, and what implications this has for the study of book history. Basil Bowdler is the Jacob Price Fellow in British Studies at the Institute of Historical Research. His PhD, entitled News and Diplomacy in the Anglo-Dutch Public Sphere, 1685-1713, was completed at the University of St Andrews in 2026.
Andrew Pettegree CBE, FBA, is Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews and Founding Director of the Universal Short Title Catalogue. He is the author of seventeen books in the fields of Reformation history and the history of communication.
Arthur der Weduwen is Reader in Modern History at the University of St Andrews and Co-Director and Project Manager of the USTC, as well as Principal Investigator of the COMLAWEU project. His most recent monograph is The Last Invasion of England (Princeton, 2026).
