Promising Family-School Community Partnerships in Early Childhood Settings emphasizes that early childhood is the foundational developmental period for all children and their families. In the last two decades, considerable evidence has amassed that strengthening professionals’ partnerships with families during this developmental period arguably has the greatest, most cost-effective, and longstanding impact on children’s subsequent schooling and life success.
In Promising Family-School Community Partnerships in Early Childhood Settings, current transformative innovations that reflect forward-thinking interprofessional collaboration and recommendations that span across multiple contexts are covered in nine chapters organized under three overarching themes: Transformative Approaches to Recruit, Prepare, and Retain an Early Childhood Workforce; Transformative Approaches to Promote Early Childhood Health and Mental Health; and Transformative Approaches to Enhance Early Childhood Services and Systems.
The selected chapters have employed approaches to enhance the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of family-facing professionals to meaningfully and equitably collaborate with the families/caretakers of children with and without disabilities or delays from birth through age 8, across a range of fields from contributing authors. Promising Family-School Community Partnerships in Early Childhood Settings showcases these contributions as part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen collaboration across early childhood settings.
