Public Involvement and Community Engagement in Higher Education Institutions brings together academic scholars and empirical researchers from diverse methodological, disciplinary, and subject backgrounds, alongside public and practice partners, to engage in meaningful dialogue around thoughtful, critical, and innovative PICE work in both theory and practice.
A key aim of this fully Open Access volume is to amplify the voices of academic colleagues with lived experience and those with lived experience who actively contribute to public involvement in Higher Education (HE) settings. Each chapter presents illustrative examples of practice from a variety of fields, offering a sympathetic yet critical appraisal of a specific concern or innovation encountered in that context.
Chapters provide methodological, theoretical, and practical insights into the processes of PICE work, reflecting on how challenges were addressed and the broader implications and lessons learned across disciplines. This collection ultimately calls for intuitive, informed, and reflective professional practice, creating space for individuals to consider how they conceptualise, navigate, and position themselves in relation to “doing PICE work” and co-producing knowledge in diverse teaching and HE environments.
