Reimagining Labour History provides a critical long-term perspective on the field and why collective organisation by workers matters. The book argues for the integration of other fields and methods, arguing this provides a better understanding of the breadth of organisation and how this and methods evolved over time. It demonstrates, in particular, the value of digitally enabled big data drawing on unique Australian databases. It describes these methods and how they can fit within longer historical perspective stretching back to the 14th century. Far from objectifying labour history, in combination with qualitative methods, big data can facilitate history from below, identifying the relationship between informal and formal organisation and hitherto neglected bodies, actions and networks of collaboration.
