Why does lasting happiness seem so elusive? In a world increasingly marked by anxiety, isolation, and despair, many people sense that something essential is missing. Despite unprecedented material comfort and technological progress, society is struggling with rising rates of suicide, addiction, and other “deaths of despair.” These realities reveal a deeper crisis of the human heart: people are searching for fulfillment in places that cannot ultimately satisfy.
Repent and Believe proposes a different path. Human beings were created in the image of God and for relationship with him. Because of this, the infinite longing within the human heart cannot be filled by finite things. Only God can fill the restless heart. When people attempt to live apart from that relationship, they experience the restlessness and confusion that characterize so much of modern life.
Drawing on Scripture and the rich spiritual wisdom of the Church, this pragmatic guide returns to Jesus’s first proclamation: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Repentance is not merely regret for past mistakes; it’s a profound reorientation of the heart and mind—a turning toward God and toward the life he created his followers to live. Through repentance, they will rediscover hope: the assurance that God loves them, guides them, and calls them into the fullness of his Kingdom.
Rooted in the living tradition of the Church and enriched by the mystical heritage of the Eastern Christian tradition, Repent and Believe offers people a hopeful and practical guide to rediscovering the path to true and lasting joy.
