This comprehensive handbook covers all the rodents of Africa in two volumes. It includes the most updated phylogenies, mostly based on genomic data, and identification keys for all taxa up to the species level. Genus accounts include inter alia information on diagnostic features, systematics and taxonomy, biogeography, fossils, photographs of live animals, skulls and molars. Each species has its own separate account that presents how to identify the species, a distribution map that highlights genotyped specimens, and standard external and cranial measurements useful for identification. The book also features an extended introduction that includes a section on fossil rodents, recent advances in phylogenetic reconstruction, and biogeography and conservation of African rodents.
