From School Library Journal:
". . .Attractive, realistic paintings invite readers to look into Buddy's eyes and experience his emotions, both of neglect and of contentment in his new home. The author appends additional information about how to help an abused dog."

"This book is perfect to read independently or aloud during a storytime, and would be great as a unit on pet care. The Spanish text flows smoothly and is well done. The sentences have a steady pace, and the word choices will help young children understand the proper way to treat pets. By sharing this title with children, we can start them on the path to responsible pet ownership.
VERDICT: Recommended for all libraries."

“Ah, what a wonderful book! Rufo liberado’s sparse text and charming illustrations are perfect for getting across his story: that of an unloved and ignored mixed-breed dog who, thanks to caring people, finally finds an affectionate family. This book is a ‘must read’ for schools and libraries. Rufo's tale is that of many dogs and other animals that need a good home but have no way of communicating that need. The Gryphon Press really is a voice for the voiceless.”
