Spoken Words, Embodied Words offers a new interdisciplinary approach to ancient Egyptian drama and performance. It pursues two lines of inquiry: first, a historiography of ancient Egyptian theatre in American theatre history scholarship, examining how the field has represented—or overlooked—ancient Egyptian performance traditions over the past century; second, an exploration of how Performance as Research (PAR) can illuminate ancient Egyptian dramatic texts and practices. By bringing together theatre artists, theatre historians, and Egyptologists, this study demonstrates how collaborative research can foster a more comprehensive understanding of ancient Egyptian theatre and its possibilities for contemporary performance.
