Ronán Long, Ph.D. (1998), Trinity College Dublin, Director of the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute in Sweden, and Nippon Foundation Professorial Chair in Ocean Governance and the Law of the Sea. He leads a team of specialists working on land-to-ocean leadership, climate change and the law of the sea, BBNJ Agreement, marine debris and Sargassum in the eastern Caribbean, robotics and AI in the maritime domain, treaty development, European Union law, UN reform, and gender and human rights.
Mariamalia Rodríguez Chaves, Ph.D. (2017), National University of Ireland, is a senior post-doctoral researcher at the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute. She works in coordinating action lines with the Latin American countries for the ratification and implementation of the BBNJ Agreement. She is member of the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority, and a former member of the Group of Experts for the UN Regular Process on the Marine Environment (World Ocean Assessment III).
