The view that labels Ofo as intrinsically idolatrous, misrepresents and misinterprets Igbo lived experience, undermines dialogue, and contradicts the spirit of the Second Vatican Council. Rather than fostering pastoral engagement, such a view risks alienating Igbo Christians from their cultural identity and perpetuating colonial epistemic violence. Drawing on Igbo anthropology and sacramental theology guided by hermeneutic phenomenology, the work proposes a constructive theological framework for integrating Ofo, an Igbo ritual symbol, into Catholic pastoral and sacramental life. It advocates for an Igbo sacramental theology that honors indigenous symbols, addresses pastoral realities, and enriches global Catholic theology.
