Discover the terrifying history of horror cinema in this wickedly entertaining guide.

Adapted from the acclaimed podcast, The Evolution of Horror takes a deep dive into the history of cinema's darkest genre. Covering everything from silent films to modern masterpieces, author Mike Muncer breaks down eight key horror subgenres - including vampires, slashers, zombies and ghost stories - to explore the tropes, motifs, historical context and psychology behind why certain stories scare us so much.

Each chapter includes reviews of a host of major movies and cult classics, from Psycho to Sinners, plus a guide to the hallmarks of the subgenre and the legendary filmmakers who have mastered it. Stylishly illustrated throughout with stills, posters and stunning artworks by artist Mike Lee-Graham, this is a must-read guide to the eclectic, enthralling and deliciously macabre world of horror.
