A luminous midsummer story of fairies, with a message of standing up for yourself. Perfect for fans of Cicely Mary Barkers Flower Fairies.

Rose lives with her parents in a small cottage in the forest. Her family are poor and hardworking, and Rose yearns for fun, friendship and flowers.

One Midsummer's Day, walking wearily home, Rose hears beautiful singing and follows the joyful sound deep into the trees. As she listens, a flurry of fairies bursts out of a tiny door in the side of a hill! One of the fairies invites Rose to join their party.

Entering the fairy world, Rose is enchanted with her new friends and gladly joins in with their Midsummer song. Will she ever want to leave?

Inspired by traditional tales of fairy folk, celebrated storyteller Janis Mackay weaves a magical tale that will capture any child's imagination. Rushi Mhasane's delightful illustrations sparkle with joy and vitality.

'This is a lovely story with themes from Scottish folklore. The exquisite pencil and watercolor art uses pastel colors and many beautiful images of flowers, along with the adorable fairies flitting around, to create a gentle, magical feel to the story. It's wonderful that the fairies have a variety of skin colors and genders, and that Rose herself has brown skin. There aren't many western folktales that have any but white skinned characters, so this is a welcome addition to the canon, and will delight young fairy lovers of any race.'

'The Fairy Song is an ever enchanting children's fairy tale with ancient roots that seem to stretch both backward and forward into time The Fairy Song is a tale with old sources in Scottish tales, enhanced immeasurably by delicate, dancing flower fairy illustrations, with characters including the fairies of multi-colored skin and beautiful blendings of the races. A magical and enchanting tale, rich with meaning and gifts for all.'
