A groundbreaking book that establishes photography as a central lens for understanding and shaping the future of tourism
This book explores how photography can be used as a visual research method and theoretical lens to illustrate and inform the future of tourism. It introduces a novel theoretical framework that positions photography as a theory builder for tourism futures, making a significant original contribution to tourism, futures studies, scenario planning and visual research. The chapters use photography to illustrate the future of tourism on topics such as climate change, regenerative tourism, authenticity, overtourism, technology and destinations. The volume develops and classifies a comprehensive suite of visual research methods, demonstrating how photography and AI-generated imagery can be used to investigate, communicate and shape future tourism scenarios. It is a useful resource for students and researchers in tourism, photography, visual research methods, futures and scenario planning.
