Accessible introduction to issues surrounding the metaverse and tourism – a must-read for those interested in learning about this exciting and growing area of research
This book examines the relationships between tourism and the metaverse and associated concepts such as augmented reality, virtual reality and metaverse tourism. It explores current applications and the potential value that metaverse tourism plays in tourism management and marketing, sustainability and development at various scales, including destinations, businesses, communities and individual consumers, as well as in tourism education. Emphasis is given to how metaverse related tourism impacts on the understanding of the destination and attraction experience as well as motivations, expectations and satisfaction of travellers, tourist behaviour, and the potential for metaverse tourism to provide substitute experiences at sensitive and at-risk destinations. The book provides an overview of current research on metaverse tourism and highlights a future research agenda for tourism students and managers to better enhance and improve the metaverse tourism experience and its applications.
