"Acerbic, moving and fun, with some really terrific writing…a charming, funny and inclusive piece of work."—Evening Standard
The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs, the only lesbian choir in the country, are trying to win their place on the Pride mainstage. In a run-down church hall with an OWL (Older, Wiser Lesbian) at the helm, the ragtag choir navigate love, loss and trying to agree on song choices. But despite their best intentions, they find that harmony comes at a price.
Packed with laugh-out-loud moments and lots of lesbian drama, Iman Qureshi's play The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs is "a feel-good, ensemble celebration of found family…Think The Full Monty populated by culturally diverse queer and non-binary women" (Reviews Hub).
"Exuberant and uplifting, accomplishing the extraordinary feat of being broad and universal in its appeal, yet speaking to and about the lesbian and queer community… Genuinely heart warming, and utterly winning with it."
—Guardian
"So funny that your stomach aches from laughter…captures the fullness of a life that is rarely seen on stage."
—WhatsOnStage
"A warm, cozy hug of a show, full of life, wit, and pathos that lingers long after its last notes fade."
—Time Out
"A heartwarming musical comedy that takes on big questions with refreshing honesty."
—Financial Times
"Clever, quirky, funny, upsetting, poignant and educational. A must-see."
—LondonTheatre1
"Qureshi's writing is almost faultless, quickly dancing between joyous humour and painful scenes…A true celebration of lesbian identity—immensely necessary but also, immensely fun."
—Broadway World
"Follows very much in the cheeky vein of amiable classic British upbeat comedies and feels like a queer equivalent of The Full Monty…a truly heartfelt ensemble show."
—Theatre Weekly
"Honest, hilarious and heartwarming."
—Liam O'Dell, deaf and disabled journalist, theatre critic, author and disability campaigner
"A captivating play that thrills throughout and combats the growing hatred in this world with an abundance of love…incredibly special."
—All That Dazzles
"Fearless…This show feels brutally honest and needed, and that's a major part of what makes it so brilliant."
—West End Best Friend
"Incredibly powerful and dynamic…filled with humour, heartbreak, and moments of joy that will stay with you long after the curtain falls."
—Theatre and Tonic
"Powerful and profoundly optimistic."
—Musical Theatre Review
"A story as complex, fabulous and rich as life itself…storytelling that pulses with vitality, honesty, and the beautifully imperfect complexity of real life."
