It includes keys to generic level, notes on the diversity and representation of each genus, and comments on the faunal relationships within the region. Each of the twelve families is defined, and information on biology and any economic importance summarised. A regional checklist of all species recorded from Malesia and nearby areas, with original references to descriptions of all taxa. Use of the book by non-specialists is facilitated by illustrations of many characteristic and diagnostic structural features, and a glossary explains much of the technical terms employed.
