Will any of the knights want to join her?
Winner of the 9th edition of the International Narrating Equality Award, which promotes stories that counter gender stereotypes.
"Whimsical watercolors accompany this high-flying tale of a girl’s empowerment" – Foreword Reviews.
Rovira’s dynamically ink-lined gouache art is homey, evoking classical medievalisms like Tomie dePaola’s The Knight and the Dragon. However, his expressive character and animal designs, friendly and funny in the mode of Bill Watterson, invigorate and update this tale with standout comradely and comedic moments. In a story alternately dreamy, indignant, and droll, Pisi and Rovira accessibly sketch out feminist problems that are far from being a thing of the past on an inclusive medievalism canvas, robustly imagining the sky as the limit. – Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books.
Though the lines are minimal, there is a powerful message that princesses are no longer passive plot devices, and others, like princes, would be smart to listen or a mighty karate chop will send them away. VERDICT This whimsical picture book will make a great addition to library picture book collections. – School Library Journal.
