In The Theology of Amos Yong and the New Face of Pentecostal Scholarship, Wolfgang Vondey and Martin William Mittelstadt gather a table of experts on one of the most influential voices in current Pentecostal theology. The authors provide an introduction and critical assessment of Yong’s biblical foundations, hermeneutics, epistemology, philosophical presuppositions, trinitarian theology, theology of religions, ecumenical and interfaith relations, theology of disability, engagement with contemporary culture, and participation in the theology and science conversation. These diverse topics are pursued through the complementary perspectives that together shape Yong’s methodology: pneumatology, pentecostalism, and the possibility of renewal. The contributors invite a more thorough reading of Yong’s work and propose a more substantial engagement with the new face of Pentecostal scholarship.

Contributors include Andrew Carver, Jacob D. Dodson, Jeff Hittenberger, Mark Mann, Martin William Mittelstadt, L. William Oliverio, Jr., David A. Reed, Tony Richie, Christopher A. Stephenson, Steven M. Studebaker, Paraskevè (Eve) Tibbs, and Wolfgang Vondey.

"The Theology of Amos Yong and the New Face of Pentecostal Scholarship makes an important contribution with the questions it raises about the new face of Pentecostal theology. It also raises questions about the future of pentecostal scholarship and the impact of pentecostal scholars shaped by a Yongian agenda. Time will tell what impact Yong will have on pentecostal scholars and the role he plays in shaping the scholarship of pentecostalism. To not take Yong seriously or the theologians who employ his work, however, will be injudicious for any scholar of pentecostalism."

Michael Wilkinson, Professor of Sociology, Trinity Western University
Wolfgang Vondey (Ph.D., Marquette University) is Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Regent University, Virginia Beach. He is the author of numerous monographs and articles with special interest in Renewal theology, global Pentecostalism, ecclesiology, ecumenism, and the convergence of science and theology.

Martin William Mittelstadt (Ph.D., Marquette University) is Professor of New Testament at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. His publications include Spirit and Suffering in Luke-Acts and Reading Luke-Acts in the Pentecostal Tradition (London, 2004).
