In this book, Hegel’s Philosophy of Right is reexamined through the lens of universal freedom and equality. While Hegel sought to show how freedom is realized in modern institutions, his account appears to justify enduring inequalities and historical contingencies. The study argues that the missing link between Hegel’s Logic and his political philosophy is found in the Phenomenology of Spirit, which explains how universal concepts become historically embodied. By reconstructing this connection, the book distinguishes universal structures of freedom from their specifically European forms and develops a renewed understanding of ethical life as the ongoing institutional mediation of freedom’s internal tensions.
