R. W. G Vail was Director of The New-York Historical Society, Editor of Sabin's Dictionary, and President of the Bibliographical Society of America. In 1945-46 he held the Fellowship in Bibliography founded in 1930 by Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach at the University of Pennsylvania.
