Across the Americas and Europe, far right governments have turned trade unions into prime political targets. Over the past decade, they have waged coordinated ‘wars’ on labour – cutting resources, reforming welfare, criminalising protest, weaponising labour laws and delegitimizing unions – in polities shaped by neoliberal restructuring and democratic backsliding.
Drawing on cases from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the United States, this book is the first to map the far right's war on unions globally, examining strategies to damage unions as organisations and democratic actors. It asks what remains of labour in an emerging post liberal order.
