Fungal pathogens, particularly in the tropics, exhibit a higher diversity compared to temperate regions. The plants of the Indo-Gangetic plains (IGP) are particularly susceptible to fungal infections due to the region's tropical climate. Increasing incidences of fungicide resistance in the IGP states stimulated increase of fungicide prices,. The research on fungicide resistance management in the IGP region is evolving, with a focus on shifting from resistance management to resilience-based strategies. Furthermore, various approaches such as using disease-resistant varieties, cultural management, crop rotation, seed treatment, and biological control have been shown to be effective in managing fungal diseases. The overall aim is to implement a holistic approach to disease control that considers the complex dynamics of fungicide resistance, environmental factors, and pathogen evolution in the Indo-Gangetic plains. This approach will also be instrumental in safeguarding agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices in the IGP region.
