In the first volume of the Zweierlei series, scientist and artist Daniel Wolter explores debate on environmental destruction in the GDR. To this end, he studied photographic collections from the archive of the GDR opposition group Robert Havemann Society, thus revealing links between the notions of ‘environment’ and ‘archive’ in the historical context of the GDR’s environmental movement. Drawing on a media-ecological perspective, Wolter correlates different categories of photographic depiction and highlights the juncture where environment is inscribed into the photographic image and, at the same time, interventions in the environment come about
