Under the shadow of Rome, first-century Jewish children learned early that they had to be brave and wise. Around every corner, armed soldiers patrolled the towns, villages, and countryside, making sure every Roman law was followed. Clashing political views among Jewish leadership created suspicion and arguments. A wrong word or wrong decision could bring down disaster on any citizen, young or old.
Then Jesus, the promised Messiah, arrived on the scene with words unlike any expected. He turned the political and religious worlds upside down. Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. He sought out the most sinful and the poor for his attention. Jesus never turned away the children who drew near—instead, He made time for them.
Join the children in these stories who lived during dark times and whose lives were forever changed by encountering the Messiah.
