Christoph Otto von Schönaich hatte im März 1751 sein Epos Hermann, oder das befreyte Deutschland an Gottsched geschickt. Schönaichs Briefe des Bandes 17 dokumentieren Gottscheds intensive Beschäftigung mit dem Werk, das im September 1751 der Öffentlichkeit mit Gottscheds Einleitung als Nationalepos präsentiert wurde. Als Ratgeber oder Publizist unterstützte Gottsched auch weitere literarische Aktivitäten, so verdankt sich die erste deutsche Ausgabe der Satiren Antioch Dmitrijewitsch Kantemirs einer Anregung Gottscheds. Briefe aus Potsdam informieren über Publikationsvorhaben Julien Offray de La Mettries und anderer Personen im Umfeld des preußischen Hofes. Eine Übersetzung der Poetik des Aristoteles hatte Gottsched 1730 mehrfach in Aussicht gestellt. Nach dessen höflicher Anfrage über den Stand der Dinge begrüßte Gottsched die Übersetzung, die Michael Conrad Curtius fertiggestellt hatte, wenn die Veröffentlichung auch erst 1753 gelang. Der Zürich-Leipziger Literaturstreit findet in mehreren Briefen Ausdruck. So ist einem Bericht des Schleusinger Rektors Johann Heinrich Hausmann zu entnehmen, dass kontroverse Debatten über Klopstocks Messias auch auf gymnasialer Ebene ausgetragen werden. Franz Ignaz (Gregorius) Rothfischer ist erstmals mit einem Brief vertreten, den er noch als Benediktiner unterzeichnet, während Briefe anderer Absender schon den spektakulären Konfessionswechsel erahnen lassen, dessen Vollzug in Leipzig im November 1751 die Öffentlichkeit bewegt.

Das insgesamt auf vier Bände angelegte Editionsprojekt erschließt die deutsch-sowjetischen Beziehungen in einem schwierigen und widersprüchlichen Zeitabschnitt ihrer Entwicklung. Vom Machtantritt Hitlers im Januar 1933 bis zum Beginn des deutsch-sowjetischen Krieges im Juni 1941 werden diese anhand von Dokumenten aus einer ganzen Reihe deutscher und russischer Archive in all ihren Facetten dargestellt – Politik, Diplomatie, Wirtschaft, Militär, Wissenschaft und Kultur. Zu einem kleineren Teil werden auch bereits editierte Schlüsseldokumente wiedergegeben. Die Bände zeichnen sich durch eine zweistaatliche und multiarchivarische Perspektive aus.

Der nun erscheinende 3. Band umfasst den Zeitraum April 1937 bis August 1939. Damit werden detailliert die Entwicklungen nachgezeichnet, die letztlich zum Abschluss des Molotov-Ribbentrop-Paktes führten. Durch den Einbezug der russischen Quellen in deutscher Übersetzung ist die Edition nicht nur für Historiker von Interesse, die sich im engeren Sinne mit den deutsch-sowjetischen Beziehungen beschäftigen, sondern für all jene, die die europäische Diplomatiegeschichte in den dreißiger Jahren insgesamt bzw. die Vorgeschichte des Zweiten Weltkriegs erforschen.

Leibniz kann jedoch erst Anfang Juni dorthin aufbrechen und besucht auf dem Wege Herzog Anton Ulrich, der während der Besetzung seines Landes am 19./20. März geflohen war und nunmehr nach Wolfenbüttel zurückgekehrt ist. Die lange, sich ein Jahr hinziehende Abwesenheit von Hannover hat eine dichte Korrespondenz – insbesondere mit Kurfürstin Sophie und dem hannoverschen "Journalisten" G. Guidi – zur Folge, in der neben häuslichen und lokalen Angelegenheiten in Hannover aktuelle Ereignisse des Spanischen Erbfolgekrieges und des Nordischen Krieges die beherrschenden Themen sind. Durch M. J. von der Schulenburg, der als Generalleutnant in der Armee Augusts des Starken die Niederlage gegen Karl XII. von Schweden bei Kliszów (19. F. Böttger zu bringen. Mit der "Lettre touchant ce qui est independant des Sens et de la Matiere", welche die Kernaussagen der "Nouveaux essais sur l’entendement humain" vorwegnimmt, erläutert Leibniz Königin Sophie Charlotte die Grundpositionen seiner eigenen Philosophie und verteidigt diese im Disput mit dem in Lietzenburg weilenden John Toland gegen dessen sensualistische Einwände.

Die vorliegende Studie ist die erste Detailstudie zum Glaubensverständnis des jungen Kierkegaard. In Verschränkung von werkimmanenter und rezeptionsgeschichtlicher Analyse werden die Grundlagen dieses Glaubensverständnisses einerseits anhand seiner Schriften und Aufzeichnungen aus der Studienzeit (1830-1841) herausgearbeitet, andererseits zugleich auf deren philosophisch-theologische Quellen und Voraussetzungen hin untersucht. Dabei wird deutlich, dass sich wichtige Aspekte und Elemente der Glaubenstheorie des späteren Schriftstellers bereits beim Theologiestudenten Kierkegaard präformiert finden. Die Florida, eine Anthologie aus 23 Reden, die Apuleius aus Madauros vorwiegend in Karthago in den Jahren nach 160 n. Chr. hielt, bieten einen reichen Schatz an Material über epideiktische Rhetorik, Mittelplatonismus sowie das öffentliche und geistige Leben in der nordafrikanischen Provinzmetropole. Der Kommentar stellt das Werk nicht nur in den kulturhistorischen Kontext, sondern untersucht auch das Besondere an Apuleius’ Sprache und Stil. Die reichhaltigen und eingehenden intertextuellen Bezüge der Florida zur früheren griechischen und römischen Literatur werden ebenso umfassend gewürdigt wie die ausdrücklichen Verbindungen des Werkes zum Mittelplatonismus, zur Zweiten Sophistik und zum übrigen Werk des Apuleius, insbesondere zu seinen philosophischen Schriften.

The Aqedah, i.e., the story of the 'binding' of Isaac by Abraham, is a core text in all three Abrahamic religions and has been widely discussed in Judaism, Christianity and Islam for centuries. It still represents an intellectual, moral, and spiritual challenge for anyone who claims to be able to link morality and faith in God in a reasonably comprehensible way. The contributions in this anthology address this challenge from philosophical, theological and literary perspectives, by considering exemplary problems, epochs and authors pertaining to all three Abrahamic religions. Aquaculture is the production, under controlled conditions, of freshwater or saltwater aquatic organisms for human consumption and non-food use. Worldwide aquaculture has increased remarkably in the last decades and now accounts for approximately half of the total production of aquatic animals.
