Karl Friedrich Köppen (1808–1863) gehörte neben Karl Marx, Bruno und Edgar Bauer sowie Max Stirner zu den bekanntesten Vertretern des Berliner Kreises der Junghegelianer. Nach jahrzehntelangen Forschungen zum Junghegelianismus legt Heinz Pepperle nunmehr die erste repräsentative Auswahl der bislang schwer zugänglichen Schriften Köppens vor, die dessen ideengeschichtliche Entwicklung aufzeigt und nachweist, wie er in die geistigen Auseinandersetzungen um Menschenrechte und Demokratie in Deutschland eingriff. Um die gedankliche und werkgeschichtliche Entwicklung des theologischen und religionsphilosophischen Denkens Tillichs transparent und nachvollziehbar zu machen, sind die Texte in der vorliegenden Studienausgabe chronologisch angeordnet. Der Band bietet so einen Einblick in die werkgeschichtliche Entwicklung des Denkens von Tillich. Dies unterscheidet den Band von bisherigen Ausgaben sowie den Gesammelten Werken. Bartholomäus Ringwaldt (1530/31-1599) gehört zu den markantesten Schriftstellern lutherisch-protestantischer Provenienz aus dem letzten Drittel des 16. Jahrhunderts; seine Schriften hatten – obwohl er als Landpfarrer in der Neumark fernab großer Zentren lebte – einen bemerkenswerten Erfolg bei den Zeitgenossen, woraus zu schließen ist, dass die Texte als repräsentativ für die moralischen, sozialen und religiösen Fragen ihrer Zeit gelten können. Sie gewähren Einblicke in eine noch wenig erforschte Phase der deutschen Literarhistorie zwischen etwa 1570 und 1630 und vermitteln die ethischen Wertvorstellungen und sozialen Verhältnisse der Zeit im protestantisch orientierten Raum Ostdeutschlands.
Die vorliegende Edition ist die erste wissenschaftliche Ausgabe sämtlicher Werke Ringwaldts. Sie enthält einen authentischen, von Fehlern bereinigten Text und dokumentiert sämtliche überlieferten Varianten der Textgenese. Ergänzt wird die Textdokumentation durch eine Darstellung der Text- und Entstehungsgeschichte, der Wirkungsgeschichte und durch texterschließende Erläuterungen. Frankreich war 1998 einer der 44 Signatarstaaten der Washingtoner Erklärung. Mit diesem Band liegt der erste Abschlussbericht über die Arbeiten in der westlichen Oberstadt von Hattuša vor. Die Oberstadt von Hattuša, die seit der 2. Hälfte des 16. Jhs. v. Chr. die Siedlungsfläche der Stadt nahezu verdoppelt hat, ist durch öffentliche Bauten unterschiedlichster Funktionen geprägt. Um den urbanen Zusammenhang in seiner Gesamtheit zu erfassen, konzentrierten sich zwischen 2002 und 2009 Ausgrabungen, geophysikalische Surveys und architekturhistorische Untersuchungen auf die Talsenke westlich von Sarikale und die diese umgebenden, bebauten Felsen in der westlichen Oberstadt. Im ersten Teil der vorliegenden Publikation werden die Ergebnisse der Untersuchungen an der Felsenanlage von Yenicekale vorgelegt. Dieses monumentale Bauwerk dominiert durch seine herausragende Lage den westlichen Teil der Oberstadt der hethitischen Hauptstadt. Das Gebäude wird erstmals in einer angemessenen Art und Weise der Fachwelt zugänglich gemacht. Neben herkömmlichen archäologischen Methoden erbrachte die interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit mit Geologen weiterführende Einblicke in die Arbeitsabläufe zur Errichtung der Anlage. Es gelingt unseres Wissens nach erstmals, den Weg eines Steins vom Steinbruch bis zum fertigen Gebäude am Bespiel eines spätbronzezeitlichen Bauwerks nachzuzeichnen. Diese Untersuchungen erschließen eine der am besten erhaltenen Felsanlagen im Stadtgebiet. Sie lassen den Schluß zu, daß es sich wahrscheinlich um ein dem Ahnenkult dienendes Gebäude - möglicherweise ein ^NA4hegur - handelte, daß vermutlich zwischen dem späten 16. und dem frühen 13. Jh. v. Chr. genutzt wurde. Im zweiten Teil des Buchs werden die Tierknochenfunden der ältesten Bauschicht im Tal vor Sarikale vorgelegt. Diese Bauschicht datiert in die zweite Hälfte des 16. Jhs. v. Chr. und ist durch die regelmäßige Architektur der sogenannten Quadrathäuser charakterisiert. Die Studie setzt die lange Tradition der naturwissenschaftlichen Arbeiten in Bogazköy fort. Erstmals konzentrieren sich die Überlegungen auf einen gut stratifizierten und datierten Befund aus dem 16. Jahrhundert v. Chr., so daß Einblicke in die Nutzungsweisen dieser Gebäude aus einem für die hethitische Geschichte wesentlichen Zeitraum möglich werden. Obwohl die Ergebnisse nur einen Ausschnitt der hethitischen Geschichte erhellen, vermitteln sie einen Eindruck von der Nutzung der Tiere als wichtigem wirtschaftlichem Faktor in einer Zeit wesentlichen Wandels und Veränderungen im hethitischen Staatswesen.

Zwischen 2007 und 2009 wurde auf einem strategisch günstigen Plateau in der Oberstadt der hethitischen Hauptstadt Hattusa ein Gebäude freigelegt, das wohl als Residenz des Kommandanten der königlichen Leibgarde zu identifizieren ist. Die Architektur und Funde ermöglichen Einblicke in das Leben der hethitischen Eliten. Byzantinische Befunde sprechen dafür, dass das Dorf des 10. Jhs. n. Chr. größer war und überregionale Kontakte bestanden.

Ausonius, the most famous of the learned poets active in the second half of the fourth century, was born at Bordeaux and taught school there for 30 years before being summoned to court to teach the future emperor Gratian. He subsequently held important public offices, returning to Bordeaux and private life after Gratian's death in 383.

His Commemorations of the Professors of Bordeaux, a sequence of light verse obituaries of local teachers, in which people are honored—or gossiped about—in their daily occupations, has been called an illustrious poetic precedent to Edgar Lee Masters's Spoon River Anthology. Austerity has proven deadly. Over the last decade, the damage caused by austerity measures in the UK has had a long-lasting and profound effect on many lives. The first edition of Austerity Bites offered on-the-ground reportage of one of the most significantly regressive economic strategies of any post-war government. Anders M. Greene-Crow shows how these authors experimented with literary form in an effort to change readers’ beliefs and behaviors with regard to food ethics.

By examining this history, Greene-Crow sheds new light on both modern-day food ethics and activism’s place in literary writing. This book traces how authors’ solutions to food insecurity turned away from structural models of communal care and toward the now-dominant consumer-capitalist model championing individual dietary choice. Simultaneously, he reveals why literary criticism began to discount literature’s power as a tool for social change. The New Critical school, whose close reading methodology dominates literary analysis, arose out of Southern Agrarianism, a movement that sought to return the South to antebellum structures of racial hierarchy and labor exploitation that took shape in the early modern period. These intersectional labor politics underlie close reading, continuing to limit critics’ understanding of how literary form produces social change, and reinforcing the scarcity culture of literature departments today.

I really enjoy the Haynes Great Car Book series, and this book is no exception. Page after page is covered with beautiful, studio style color photographs (not retouched), accompanied by clear and concise text. The detailed exterior/interior photos make this book a valuable reference for both Austin Healey restorers and scale model builders. This book would make a great addition to any classic sports car enthusiast's library.
