Der Kommentar zu den Briefen bietet - in Form von einführenden Erläuterungen zu einzelnen Briefen und als Stellenkommentar - Mitteilungen zur Biographie der Korrespondenzpartner, insbesondere im Hinblick auf ihre Beziehungen zu Klopstock, Auskünfte zu allen in der Korrespondenz erwähnten Personen, Werken und Ereignissen, Sach- und Worterklärungen, Zitatnachweise sowie Verweisungen auf Zusammenhänge innerhalb des Briefwechsels.

Der Apparat enthält Mitteilungen zur Biographie der Korrespondenzpartner, insbesondere im Hinblick auf ihre Beziehungen zu Klopstock, Auskünfte zu allen in der Korrespondenz erwähnten Personen, Werken und Ereignissen, Sach- und Worterklärungen, Zitatnachweise sowie Verweisungen auf Zusammenhänge innerhalb des Briefwechsels. Der bereits erschienene Text-Band enthält 212 Briefe, von denen mehr als zwei Drittel hier zum ersten Mal gedruckt erscheinen. Im Mittelpunkt des Briefwechsels steht zunächst die Trauer um Klopstocks 1758 verstorbene Frau Meta. In der Korrespondenz mit Gleim und Ebert geht es u.a. um Klopstocks biblische Dramen "Salomo" und "David" sowie um seine Erfindungen neuer deutscher Versmaße. Andreas Peter Bernstorff, der - wie auch Geßner, Gerstenberg, Asseburg, Lavater und Denis - neu in den Kreis der Briefpartner tritt, ist 1762/63 neben Gleim Klopstocks Vertrauter in der Zeit seiner Liebe zu Sidonie Diederichs.

Klopstocks Odenschaffen währte von 1747 bis 1802, also fast so lange wie das schöpferische Leben des Dichters überhaupt. Seiner Lyrik verdankt Klopstock sein stärkstes Nachleben.
Diese Ausgabe ersetzt die kritisch-historische Oden-Ausgabe, die Franz Muncker und Jaro Pawel 1889 in zwei Bänden herausgegeben haben. Ihr Textbestand ist in der neuen Ausgabe um 6 Gedichte auf 236 vergrößert worden: um drei ungedruckte, zwei gedruckte und eine Ode, die von Muncker/Pawel nur als Fassung aufgefasst wurde. Die neue Ausgabe enthält weit mehr parallelisierte Früh- und Spätfassungen als die alte. Die Hauptgrundlage der Textwiedergabe ist auch für diese Neuedition Klopstocks letzte Oden-Ausgabe von 1798, Bd. 1 und 2 der Göschen-Ausgabe der „Werke“, sowie der postum 1804 erschienene Bd. 7 dieser Ausgabe. Die beiden Apparatbände beschreiben die Überlieferung, geben Zeugnisse und erläuternde Hinweise zum Text und verzeichnen Varianten und Lesarten, zum Teil in synoptischer Darstellung. Ein Register erschließt die Odentexte Klopstocks.

Der Apparatband dokumentiert Entstehung, Überlieferung, biblische Bezüge und zeitgenössische Rezeption der „Geistlichen Lieder“ Klopstocks (unter Berücksichtigung der Vertonungen und der Verbreitung in den Gesangbüchern), die im Textband erstmals wissenschaftlich ediert werden, darunter zwei bisher unveröffentlichte Lieder aus dem Klopstock-Nachlass.

Taking a sociological approach, the authors of Appearance as Capital examine physical appearance as a normatively regulated form of capital and explore how it is possible to accumulate and convert capital based on physical appearance. The chapters examine how norms of accumulating and converting aesthetic capital intertwine with gender, age and other forms of capital and play a role in shaping inequalities.

Demonstrating how different cultural, institutional, group-specific and situational norms regulate the possibilities of accumulating and converting aesthetic capital, the authors take a critical stance towards an economics-inspired analysis of physical appearance as universally defined ‘beauty’ or ‘attractiveness’ that has standard value for all individuals. Die Ergebnisse der kommentierenden Darstellung werden im Rückbezug auf Kants Publikationen – vor allem die Kritik der reinen Vernunft – interpretiert und die Kontinuität kantischen Denkens, aber auch die Brüche aufgezeigt. This book is an annotated edition of The Correspondents: An Original Novel (1775), a work, as the introduction argues, derived from A Sentimental Journey, and one of the best of the many later efforts to capture Sterne’s unique blend of sensibility and sensuality. The introduction will make the case for its authorship being an actual exchange of love letters between George Lord Lyttelton (1709–1773) and Apphia Peach Lyttelton (1743–1840), his daughter-in-law, 30 years younger than her father-in-law at the time of the exchange. In our inability to understand precisely what happened between the two is the genius of their imitation of Sterne. It is an ambiguity that results from the conscious reshaping of original letters into a narrative, probably by Apphia Peach in the 2 years between Lyttelton’s death and its publication. The correspondents exchange some 80 letters in all, many with references and quotations to writers in the literary tradition; these allusions will be annotated when at all possible. Particularly important are the allusions to Sterne’s Sentimental Journey, which was the origin of the design of The Correspondents, and to Shakespeare, Apphia Peach joining Lyttelton’s good friend Elizabeth Montagu in this early indication that the eighteenth-century elevation of Shakespeare was often the direct result of his women readers.

Plant factories have great potential for mitigating the contradiction between the growing global population and food scarcity. Machine vision plays an important role during automated food production, covering each production stage from raising seedlings, transplanting, management, harvesting and grading to packaging. In this paper, the prospects of machine vision application in plant factories are analyzed, then the present research utilizing this technology are summarized, including plant growth monitoring, robot operation assistance and fruit grading. Through the analyses, it is found that although existing methods have solved various practical problems with the advantages of low cost, high efficiency and high precision, there are still various challenges facing machine vision. Firstly, changing lighting conditions, complex indoor environments and color similarities between a plant’s organs can cause common image segmentation algorithms to fail. The lack of standard agricultural datasets hinders deep learning and unsupervised classification algorithms from making significant progress. Secondly, there are various theoretical knowledge gaps regarding the application of machine vision in the specific plant factory environment, which seriously hinders its application effect. Thirdly, a shortage of special image acquisition devices and supporting facilities has resulted in poor image quality. All these factors hinder machine vision to promote the development of plant factories. Nevertheless, this technology remains a powerful tool and is currently irreplaceable. We believe that machine vision will become more robust, efficient and reliable with the development of computer technology, the application of deep learning and updated algorithms.

This book examines visual data use with students (PK-16) as well as in pre-service in- service science teacher preparation. Each chapter includes discussion about the current state of the art with respect to science classroom application and utilization of the particular visual data targeted by the author(s), discussion and explanation about the targeted visual data as applied by the author in his/her classroom, use of visual data as a diagnostic tool, its use as an assessment tool, and discussion of implications for science teaching and/or science teacher preparation.

Although the body of research and practice in this field is growing, there remains a gap in the literature about clearly explicating the use of visual data in the science classroom. A growing body of literature discusses what visual data are (although this topic is still viewed as being at the beginning of its development in educators’ thinking), and there are some scattered examples of studies exploring the use of visual data in science classrooms, although those studies have not necessarily clearly identified their foci as visual data, per se. As interest and attention has become more focused on visual data, a logical progression of questioning has been how visual data are actually applied in the science classroom, whether it be early elementary, college, or somewhere in between. Visual data applications of interest to the science education community include how it is identified, how it can be used with students and how students can generate it themselves, how it can be employed as a diagnostic tool in concept development, and how it can be utilized as an assessment tool. This book explores that, as well as a variety of pragmatic ways to help science educators more effectively utilize visual data and representations in their instruction.

This book examines visual data use with students (PK-16) as well as in pre-service in- service science teacher preparation. Each chapter includes discussion about the current state of the art with respect to science classroom application and utilization of the particular visual data targeted by the author(s), discussion and explanation about the targeted visual data as applied by the author in his/her classroom, use of visual data as a diagnostic tool, its use as an assessment tool, and discussion of implications for science teaching and/or science teacher preparation.

Nanospectroscopy addresses the spectroscopy of very small objects down to single molecules or atoms, or high-resolution spectroscopy performed on regions much smaller than the wavelength of light, revealing their local optical, electronic and chemical properties.
